Make The Most Of Your Habits - Make Your Mark In Life

What do our personal habits say of us? Do they really talk, and even before we open our mouths? Or are they only things we do or the way we do things?

Our manner, mannerisms and characteristics are important to us, who we are, what we do, the way we live. Our customs and the way we handle life, they help to make us the person we are.

Our routines give us constancy, our practices give us confidence. Our foibles help to make us the individual we are today. Quite unlike anyone else, yet with our similarities, too.

Do we tend to do something one way only? Is this the way we have found that works for us, or is it that we have not tried anything else?

Are our habits our strengths or talents - both big and small? Or just things we do? What do we routinely do?

Whatever they are they are a part of our everyday lives. At times they add to the tension and pressures and other emotions to cope with. We keep doing something - 'out of habit' - and it does not go down well for whatever reason. These occurrences can add anxiety and further burdens to otherwise pressurized lives. We need to quickly put 'our' habits in their place. To put things into perspective for ourselves and to think and reassess - what we do, who we are, our tensions and anxieties, ourselves. At times like these words can be very powerful - healing, soothing, comforting, relaxing . . .

The power of words . . .

As we read we can let the words gently flow over us. We can let the words quietly be spoken to us in there own sweet way. We can let ourselves open to the thoughts and their meanings, the ideas and their origin, the phrases and the understandings that they have ready for us. Ready for us to assimilate and take on board. If we let them filter through and allow the words their power to move and rejuvenate. If we let ourselves be uplifted and filled with their sometimes hidden insights. Let them gently and slowly impact on our lives as we read - and in the future when we recall their meaning for us.

I hope this page will do this and more. I hope this example will help to express life in an insightful, penetrating but easy to read manner. And help us to question the lives we lead and the manner in which we live them.

Are we mostly creatures of habit
in what we do and what we say
and that might be our favorite
way of tackling life and not going astray

Our mannerisms, they may come into play
showing to all more than we might want
lets have hopes and have no dismay
if we give the game away and taunt

Our friends with the way that we act
not get stuck in and in fact digress
we would do much better if in fact
we used our strengths to provide success

For that is what our habits are for
to be used, practiced and perfected
be they mediocre or of the top drawer
and we use them without being prompted

Weaknesses we tend to avoid
for fear of playing the fool
much better if we enjoyed
the straight and narrow - not the whirlpool

Obsessions we come to depend
upon in their own way they make a stand
we'd rather avoid the habit and attend
more closely to life and not be in a dreamland

Compulsion is a habit we do not like
fixation is something we need to brush aside
addiction should be told - go for a hike
learn that life can everything for us provide

Custom and practice so they say
is successful and reaps the rewards
of being in the mainstream today
if only our efforts are all towards

The goals we need to be after
and not lost in some crazy tangent
where we might just meet some anger
for having lost our way and judgment

In not pursuing rules and traditions
being lost in the routine
how can we make sense of our actions
when so much is enacted unseen

And out of the public eye
might be the best way we might think
and we would do well to comply
if we are not careful our life will just s(t)ink

All best,
Martin
