So what do we have in store this month in this edition of 'Balance in Life'?

So let us get started on this months edition . . .

On a Lighter Note

Following on from the Lighter Note page on the website I thought I would provide just a few more quotes here each month.

Another chance to smile, to ponder, to think, to appreciate, to . . .

Look young and live longer, Glenn Harrold

Time may be a great healer, but it's a lousy beautician. Author unknown

We turn not older with years, but newer every day. Emily Dickinson

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Henry Ford

There are people whose watch stops at a certain hour and who remain permanently at that age. Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve

The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it. Michelangelo

He who is calm and happy nature will hardly feel the pressure of age, but to him who is of an opposite disposition youth and age are equally a burden. Plato

Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed . . . aim at purifying your thoughts and everything will be well. Mahatma Gandhi

Don't bother just to be better than your contemporaries or predecessors. Try to be better than yourself. William Faulkner

Prose 'n Poetry Corner

Each month I will look through my notebooks and find a little bit of prose 'n poetry. Often written in a few minutes, so please don't expect Wordsworth, but hopefully these entries will provide a little interlude in your day. A chance to think and ponder, to daydream or to visualize, to perhaps see things in a different light.

Please see what you think and let me know if it is useful or not - highlights some valuable points but in a lighter vein . . .

Happy reading.

Is it all about the first across the line
doing your best can be just fine
not everything need be a race
be yourself and you'll not lose face
accept your destiny, leave no room for a whine

Sometimes the goal posts they seem to change
what is required can seem much more demanding
but you are adaptable and can improve your range
give of your best, in your field be the last main standby

It is good to be writing once again
though it has been now a few years
since it last wrote a meaningful refrain
and trying to sum up the blood, sweat and the tears

We just need paper and pen
commit our thoughts, ideas and then
branch forward knowing our way
on our path through life we can then stay

There is no need to shout
do your best and leave the rest
to others and stay on your route
just be sure all of your energies in life you do invest

Main Article

Each month there will be an article, with fresh content, that goes into a subject in a little more detail. Perhaps give a different stance. Perhaps provide food for thought. Perhaps . . .

This month a different theme.

What is true friendship?

True friendship consists not in the multitude of friends but in their worth and value. Ben Jonson

What is true friendship and what does it really mean for us?

What place does it have in our lives?

What one stands for and what we do has meaning. That is important.

True friends stand by us.

They do not judge us. They accept us for what we are.

How many friends do you think that you have? Five. Ten. Hundred. Hundreds.

Are they friends or are they acquaintances?

What would they do for you if you were in a real scrape? Would they come good or leave you to your own devices, or worse not know or care anything about it?

True friends may number just a handful.

What is true friendship?

True friends are the ones that are behind you, support you - through thick and thin.

They like and love you - just as you are. Warts and all.

They see the good in you and accept that, as none of us are perfect, that we are not all good, all nice. That there are aspects of our personality, of us, that grates or rubs, but overall we are a good and wholesome person. And one they are happy to be around.

They know when you are down and need encouragement. They know when you need support. They know when to leave you alone.

They want to spend time with you and be in your company.

They feel you are worthy of their time, attention, compassion and love. That you are a person of value.

And your task?

And are you a friend to and for them, too?

Being there for them. Seeing their tears and laughter. Their highs and lows. Their successes and failures.

And care and love them through it - whatever.

What is true friendship?

Friendship should be a two-way thing. Not just give or take, but a sharing. A coming together.

About seeing the good in someone when they may not see it in themselves.

And if things should go wrong, going the extra mile to repair the rift. To seek the common ground. To not give up so easily. To appreciate the other person and what they may be going through.

And when things are great to just be there. To share. To contribute. To enjoy.

To give of your best without thought of gain or prejudice.

To be a friend. To be a human being of worth and value.

To be yourself and to let them be themselves also.

To savor the times together. The experiences. The learning. The peace. The joy. As well as the challenges and the obstacles.

To be a friend throughout it all.

Hope you enjoyed it and found it beneficial. Be inspired to become more in 2012. Make the most of every moment you have. Martin

Until the next edition of 'Balance in Life'

So, that is all for this month - doesn't time fly! Another year is now upon us. So much to do, so little time. A chance to set priorities. A chance to start something new. A chance to leave some stuff behind. Another chance to help create a new YOU.

Again it has been a real pleasure spending time with you. I look forward to meeting up with you next month - February 2013, and another New Year!

The summer months revitalized us. Winter is now upon us. A time for reflection. A chance to think through what we are doing in life. To see new ways and chances to start afresh. Clean the slate. Get down to all those important things that you may have been putting off - and we tend to do that from time to time, don't we?

Why not start right now!

Many thanks to all of you who have been reading these ezines over the months. And for your good wishes, comments and suggestions.

In the meantime make the most of your life. Enjoy your days. And if you want to contact me about anything pertaining to self esteem and life then you know where to do so.

May I just wish you all every success and hope that you find enjoyment, satisfaction and fulfillment in your life in the coming days and years.

All best from England, Martin
